Fee structure for 200 engineering colleges to be finalised soon

Fee structure for 200 engineering colleges which sought hike in the fee, would be decided in two weeks, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, M.G. Gopal, said here on Tuesday.

These colleges have sought enhancement of tuition fee considering the burden of paying AICTE- recommended salaries to the faculty and government-recommended scales to the non-teaching staff. These aspects would be considered while arriving at a decision, Mr. Gopal said after releasing the EdCET 2012 ranks. The Supreme Court directed the State government to fix the fee while granting a stay on the High Court order which squashed the State government’s decision to have different amounts of fee for convenor and management quotas.

Two hundred colleges approached the court requesting that fee be fixed basing on the expenditure incurred.
Eamcet counselling

Counselling for admission, based on the Eamcet ranks, will commence around July 14, Mr. Gopal said. Reservation for minority category students would be done as per the direction to be given by the court, he added.
Teaching associates

The Principal Secretary, who is also in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, said that there was no intention on the part of government to remove teaching associates in the universities.
Contract

Their contracts are renewed after every 11 months and this year they were asked to apply again and appear for interview, he added.
