IISER dual degree to get recognition

Decision taken at SLAC meeting
The State Level Academic Committee (SLAC), a panel of Vice Chancellors of State universities, has decided to grant recognition to Bachelor of Science-Master of Science (BS-MS) dual degree programmes being offered by the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER).

The decision was taken at a meeting of the SLAC at the Cochin University of Science and Technology on Friday. The issue was taken up for consideration following complaints that the BS-MS programme in Biological Science of IISER was not recognised by State universities as equivalent to M.Sc. in Botany or Zoology.

The meeting decided on a framework for the functioning of the committee, which will meet twice a year. Special meetings can also be convened whenever the need arises.

The committee will refer matters relating to equivalency or recognition of academic programmes to panel of experts in the respective field of study.
